In October of 2016, the Greenpeace airship A.E. Bates made multiple flights over the San Francisco Bay area near a facility the IOI Group imports its palm oil. Revealed in a recent report by Greenpeace International, Indonesian palm oil is still flowing into Europe and the USA through companies like the IOI Group, who contribute to the increase in forest destruction, peatland fires, and child labor.

Hundreds of activists flooded the streets of Berkeley on September 23, 2017 to participate in a march against white supremacy, hosted by No Hate in the Bay. The two mile march had stops along the route, at locations relevant to local community resistance against white supremacy, the patriarchy, and the far-right agenda. The march made its final stop at UC Berkeley.

The 2016 summer heat wave in Washington, DC created unbearable living conditions for the creatures in the lake in Constitution Gardens. Because the lake is shallow, the water temperature rises quickly, while dissolved oxygen levels in the water reduce drastically, which robs the fish of oxygen. Algae blooms begin to spawn, which also play a part in reducing the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water.

Despite the rain and sleet, thousands of women came together for the second annual Women’s March in London, England on January 21, 2018, which took place near the WWII memorial commemorating women’s efforts during the war. The event was centered around Time’s Up, the recent campaign launched by women in Hollywood to protest sexual harassment in the entertainment industry and workplace.

Outside the Mexican Embassy in Washington, DC on July 7, 2016, people rally to thank the Mexican government for its efforts to save the vaquita, and also urge Mexico to do more by imposing a permanent ban on fishing nets in vaquita habitat, located in the Northern parts of the Gulf of Mexico. The vaquita is the world’s smallest and most endangered porpoise, and it is estimated that there are only 60 left in the world.

On August 6, 2016, hundreds of people gathered with their bikes outside the White House in Washington, DC to attend “Bike Around the Bomb”, an event hosted by Global Zero. This event commemorated the 71st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and attending activists demanded an end to nuclear weapons.

Held in Potomac Park in Washington, DC on August 13, 2016, the Disarm Hate Rally called for the government to create new gun laws that would reduce the amount of gun violence and senseless deaths that result from it. Supported by numerous gun law reform organizations and groups, speakers at the rally addressed the recent shootings that have occurred across the US, resulting in countless deaths, and demanded action to end gun violence.
